About NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 4 Ex 4.4

For any quadratic equation in the form of ax2 + bx + c = 0, b2 - 4ac is known as its discriminant. This discriminant is used to find out the nature of the roots of the quadratic equation.

  1. If b2 - 4ac > 0, the quadratic equation has two distinct real roots
  2. If b2 - 4ac = 0, the quadratic equation has two equal real roots
  3. If b2 - 4ac <0, the quadratic equation has no real roots

The roots of a quadratic equation, ax2 + bx + c = 0 are given by:

x = (-b ± b2 - 4ac) )/ 2a

If  b2 - 4ac > 0, the two roots are given by:

Root 1: -b/2a + b2 - 4ac)/ 2a

Root 2: -b/2a - b2 - 4ac)/ 2a

If b2 - 4ac = 0, then the roots are given by:

Root 1: x = -b/2a

Root 2: x = -b/2a

Types of questions included in NCERT Class 10 Maths Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4:

Ex 4.4 Q1: In this question, you are given three quadratic equations. You have to find the nature of the roots of the quadratic equations and also find the roots if real roots exist. Our NCERT Solutions include stepwise explanations of this question.
