NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Practical Geometry Ex 4.2 help you understand how to construct quadrilaterals. This exercise is based on the construction of a quadrilateral when the measurements of the two diagonals and three sides are given to you. There is one question in this exercise with three sub-parts where you have to create two quadrilaterals and one rhombus respectively.
The askIITians Maths experts have created stepwise solutions for NCERT Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Exercise 4.2 for your complete understanding of the concepts. Let us see what are the steps involved in the construction of a quadrilateral when its two diagonals and three sides of the quadrilateral are given to you.
Suppose you have to construct a quadrilateral ABCD with two diagonals AC = 6.5 cm and BD = 8 cm. The other sides of the quadrilateral are BC = 5.5 cm, AD = 6.5 cm and CD = 6 cm.
Step 1: We can see that AD, AC and DC are given so we can construct a triangle ΔACD by using the SSS criterion.
Step 2: Now, we know that BD is given so we can draw the point B keeping D as the centre and draw an arc of radius 8 cm just opposite to the point D with reference to AC.
Step 3: BC is given so we can draw an arc keeping C as centre and radius 5.5 cm so that it intersects the other arc.
Step 4: The point of intersection of the arcs is point B. Join AB and BC to complete the quadrilateral.
ABCD is the required quadrilateral. You can also create a rough sketch of the quadrilateral for reference purposes before you start the construction. This way you can ensure that you are on the right track.
Exercise 4.2 of Class 8 Maths NCERT Chapter 4 Practical Geometry includes one question with three subparts.
The exercise is easy to solve since you are given all the required measurements. All you have to do is understand how to use the geometry tools such as a protractor, a compass and a ruler correctly to construct the required figures. You must concentrate on the question while constructing the figure and any minute mistake can lead to wrong construction.
