There is good news for students who have given their state board examinations. The newly introduced percentile system in Rajasthan has resulted in state board students getting preference in government colleges, as opposed to students from the CBSE board.
This is a change that has resulted from the efforts of the Education Minister Kalicharan Saraf, who raised the issue. In the earlier system, state board students were handicapped due to a tough marking system. Colleges would admit students based on percentage cutoff, which would give the more lenient CBSE system an advantage. Following the plea of the minister, the percentile system was introduced, resulting in increased admission in Government colleges. Private colleges, however, are still admitting students on the basis of percentage.
