Established in the year 2010, NIT Delhi is one of the 30 NITs in India. It is an autonomous authority under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The institute offers research facilities in several disciplines of Science and Technology, Engineering, Management, Humanities for advance learning and Social Sciences. The institute, before commencing its operations from the home state carried on its process at NIT Warangal and in the year 2010 it moved to a temporary campus at Dwarka and in June 2012 it shifted to the present campus at Narela, New Delhi.

The admissions in NIT Delhi for the B.Tech programmes are conducted on the basis of the JEE performances for the Indian nationals and a reservation of 50% is also kept for the Delhi and Chandigarh based students and the remaining seats are filled on the basis of all India rankings of JEE. In the M.tech disciplines the admissions are conducted on the basis of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, GATE. From the academic year 2013-14 the strength in the B. Tech programme has increased to 60 students. In the PG programs especially in the M.Tech discipline in Electronics and Communication Engineering a lot of 15 students has been increased.

The entrance examination to get seats in NIT Delhi is based on the ranks of JEE Main. Before appearing for the IIT JEE, students are required to confirm their class 12th board marks with the concerned board and authorities.
