Hi,
Nancy Witcher Astor, Viscountess Astor, (born 19 May 1879, died 2 May 1964) was the first woman to serve as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons after being elected to the Plymouth Sutton seat on 28 November 1919 as a Unionist.
Nancy Astor was not the first woman elected as an MP. The first was Constance Markiewicz, who was elected to serve as an MP for the Irish Sinn Féin party in 1918. However, in line with Sinn Féin policy she did not take her seat.
