Why compton shift is not detectable for heavy elements ?

change in wavelength is called as compton shift . As heavy elements posses greater mass so there particles have slow velocity.And as the velocity is slower hence the momentum of molecules(partticles) of that heavy elements is less.Therefore such elements are not capable to chane the wavelength and that is why compton shift is not detectable for heavy elements.
