In the first question, you have to find the nature of the roots of the given quadratic equations. Important points to note while solving NCERT questions of Class 10 Maths Chapter 4 Quadratic Equations:

  • Quadratic Equations: A quadratic equation in the variable x is of the form ax2 + bx + c = 0, where a, b, c are real numbers and a ≠ 0. 
  • A quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0 has 

(i) two distinct real roots, if b2 – 4ac > 0, 

(ii) two equal roots (i.e., coincident roots), if b2 – 4ac = 0, and 

(iii) no real roots, if b2 – 4ac < 0.

  • You must take note of the + and - signs while solving a quadratic equation. 
  • In case of word problems, read the question at least twice and write everything that is given to you. If you want, you can also create diagrams to represent the situation and understand the question better. 
  • Practice quadratic equations problems thoroughly so that you can solve any kind of question in the board exam.
